In the shop I am working on installing the transom hardware. Usually I would lay out where the hardware goes using penciled guide lines. We are trying to speed this process up a bit and so I am creating a drill template that goes over the transom and has all the holes drilled out already so there is no lay out involved. The splash was made by CF Maier, our fiberglass specialist that does the boat lay up, and I am in the middle of laying out exactly where the holes need to be drilled.
Once the holes are located perfectly, I will mount drill bushings on the template. In the future, I will just put the template on the transom and dill out the holes for hardware in a minute. For this to work well it has to be precise and repeatable.
