Have just returned to Colorado after a wonderful weekend at Lake Pleasant, Arizona, attending the 2015 Wrinkleboat Ran-Tan. Arizona provided summer-like weather during the weekend – 70s and sunshine. The only ‘negative’ was the wind was at an all-time low … folks that have attending the Arizona Yacht Club Birthday Regatta stated this was a ‘record low’ for lack of wind. Oh well, one can’t control the weather.
Sailing was still fun. The Wrinkleboats ran three races – two on Saturday and one on Sunday. The two Saturday races were ‘drifters’ with the wind blowing at most three knots, but usually around 1kt. There were times that the boat was moving though no evidence of wind was on the water.
Sunday started out with a 10-12kt wind. The course on Sunday was to run around two islands, Horse and Balanced Rock, at the north end of the lake and then around an un-named island at the south end of the lake. The nice breeze at the start wasn’t to last. As the group approached Horse Island the wind died to almost nothing. As on Saturday I was able to keep the boat moving even with no evidence of a breeze. The course was shortened to end at the ‘un-named island’.
The racing was fun. Interacting with the Wrinkleboat feet members was a blast. Great discussions about all things small boat were had.
After racing on Sunday was completed the awards were handed out to participants.

Planning for the 2016 event is already in process.
